Frequently asked questions

Solar shades are your temperature guardians. Equipped with a special silver coating on the back, they keep out heat and cold, offering both insulation and sun reflection for a comfy room.

What are solar roller shades?
Solar roller shades take it a step further, combining full window coverage with partial unwinding options. Block sunlight while preserving views by rolling down just the needed fabric length.

Through the silver coating on the back of the fabric (facing the glass pane) and thereby also the thicker fabric, sun rays are being reflected, preventing them from shining into the room as well as the heat from entering the room. In addition, cellular shades are provided with little air pockets/cells that take heat-trapping and insulation another step further.

When it comes to buying solar shades, you have two choices: buy solar shades online or in nearby stores. Online shopping offers convenient price comparisons and a wide variety of designs and fabrics, while physical stores let you feel the fabric firsthand. So, whether you’re into online ease or tactile shopping, where to buy solar shades is a personal choice.

The cost of solar shades varies depending on the chosen design and fabric. The cheapest solar shades are roller solar shades due to their simplicity in design, followed by thermal pleated solar shades, because of their not 100% darkening capability. For a premium option, go for cellular shades as you’ll get maximum energy-efficiency, room darkening no matter the color as well as a chic and timeless design.

Yes. Solar shades block heat in summer and cold in winter. Besides being equipped with a coating that reflects the sun rays, the fabric of solar shades is almost up to fully opaque, which prevents the heat from entering the room. Cellular shades additionally trap heat in the air-pockets between the fabric layers.

Do solar shades block uv rays?
Yes. An especially developed silver coating at the back reflects UV rays, preventing furniture and floors from fading as well as the heat from entering the room.

Yes. Solar shades are made from fabrics that are nearly opaque to fully non-translucent, ensuring that your privacy is safeguarded from prying eyes, even in the evening with interior lights switched on.

Yes. In winter solar shades can be just as handy as in summer. Through the nature of the fabrics and the design of solar shades, warmed air from a heater stays longer in the room keeping it cozy and warm.

Yes. Solar shades are an insulation for your windows. The unique composition of solar shade fabrics and the shades’ innovative design give little to no chance for the cold air from outside to enter the room.

Yes. Solar shades effectively block the summer heat and winter cold, thereby reducing the operational time (and costs) of your AC or heater. Additionally, these shades help retain warmth generated by heaters within the room longer.

You can absolutely enjoy your steamy showers without worry! Our sun shades can handle water steam, and occasional direct water contact is okay too. Just be cautious with extended exposure to water, as excessive moisture might affect the fabric structure. As an extra step, consider gently wiping your solar shades with a dry cloth after showers or water exposure.

The best solar shade for you depends on the desired effect and visual look. When preferring energy efficiency without complete darkening, opt for thermal pleated shades. Cellular shades have a similar look as thermal pleated shades but with maximum privacy, heat and cold blocking and room darkening. Solar roller shades on the other hand offer a clean and simple look with similar values to cellular shades.

For thermal pleated shades, the lighter the color the better, because, just like with white clothing in summer, light colors keep the room cooler for a longer period of time. As for cellular shades and solar roller shades, the color does not affect the function, thus letting you pick the color just by visual preference without sacrificing energy-efficiency or heat-blocking.

Cellular shades and solar roller shades have a 0-1% light transmittance, making them the perfect insulators and heat-blockers no matter the color. Thermo pleated shades offer a light transmittance spanning 12-38%, allowing you to customize your preferred level of darkening while preserving temperature regulation abilities.

Solar shades can be mounted with drilling or without drilling and come in three different designs: from cellular shades, to pleated shades and roller shades. For a description of the installation process for cellular and pleated shades, visit the FAQ section of the pleated shades explore page and for roller shades check out the FAQ section here.

The cleaning process of solar pleated shades and solar roller shades is simple and described in detail in the FAQ sections of pleated shades and roller shades.

At first, cleaning cellular solar shades can seem a bit more difficult due to the structure of the fabric and the air pockets between the two fabric layers. It’s in fact super simple. For cleaning these air pockets/honeycomb cells, use a hairdryer (preferably on the cold setting) and blow the air through the cells. This removes any dust or dead bugs from inside the cells. Mission accomplished!

A big YES. You pay once and lower the cost of living for the rest of your lifetime. Solar shades are energy-efficient and therefore significantly lower the costs for AC and heater. Furthermore, they protect your furniture and floor from fading, which means you save yourself a good amount on upcoming renovations. But the biggest advantage is related to your well-being. Not only does it offer full privacy as well as a better sleep due to maximum temperature control, but any amount and costs saved could be spent on a spa day or vacay. That sounds quite convincing, doesn’t it?
